Overview
Daniel M. McElhinney is the Assistant Office Managing Partner in Lozano Smith’s San Luis Obispo office. He provides counsel to school districts in a variety of areas, including labor, employment and governance.
Experience
Mr. McElhinney regularly advises clients on matters related to employee relations, collective bargaining, investigations, Brown Act, Public Records Act, student issues and First Amendment rights. He is also a certified mediator and has experience with alternative dispute resolution. Mr. McElhinney can assist in effective pre-litigation problem solving.
Presenter Experience
Mr. McElhinney is a frequent presenter on behalf of clients and statewide associations. Representative topics include the Uniform Complaint Process, AB 1266, sexual harassment prevention, and best practices for non-discrimination and legal protections for transgender students.
Community Involvement
As an AmeriCorp member in the Central Coast Volunteer Corps, Mr. McElhinney worked with nonprofits developing new programs and building organizational capacity.
Education
Mr. McElhinney earned his law degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and his B.A. from Saint Mary’s College.
