About me
Some people know they want to become an educator from an early age. Carissa was not that person. As the child of an educator, with three older sisters who are educators, Carissa set out to blaze their own trail. They moved to Seattle to study sociology. They spent more time out of the country than in it. And they held many jobs in many fields. Ultimately all of those things led Carissa to exactly where they are now: “in education”.At present, Carissa is the Director of Student Services for the Soquel Union Elementary School District. In their 12 years with SUESD, they have held a number of positions; aide, SDC teacher, RSP Teacher,Behavior Support Team Lead, and Principal. They hold bachelor's degrees in sociology and special education and a master’s degree in educational psychology with an emphasis in behavioral neuroscience, trauma, and resilience. Carissa’s professional interests include improvement science, organizational health, and data narratives. Carissa's personal interests include sparkling water, reading (preferably while drinking sparkling water), the outdoors, gardening, and organizing their tiny home. Carissa sees meaningful educational institutions as those who engage the WHOLE community in supporting the WHOLE child.
